STATE OF MILITARY-PATRIOTIC EDUCATION IN INSTITUTIONS OF GENERAL SECONDARY EDUCATION: RESULTS OF ALL-UKRAINIAN SURVEY OF STUDENTS AND TEACHERS
Abstract
The purpose of the article is to highlight the results of the All-Ukrainian Survey (hereinafter AUS) on the implementation of military-patriotic education of students in general secondary education institutions, drawn from the scientific research paper “Organizational and Pedagogical Conditions and Technologies of the Unity of Physical and Military-Patriotic Education of Students in Institutions of General Secondary Education” (2023–2025) of the Laboratory of National and Patriotic Education of the Institute of Problems on Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine.
To achieve the goal, the following methods were used: analysis, classification, generalization, questionnaires in order to systematize and generalize the AUS’s empirical data on military-patriotic education of students in general secondary education institutions. The AUS aimed at determining the state of military-patriotic education in general secondary education institutions in Ukraine, covering 28,464 high school students and 21,665 teachers in general secondary education institutions in 19 regions and regional centers.
The AUS of high school students and teachers regarding military-patriotic education in the conditions of the educational process of general secondary education institutions made it possible to find out: the level of awareness among high school students of the connection between the events of the historical past of Ukraine with its present and future as an independent state, the determination of their desire to connect their life with Ukraine and work for its development and formation; the effectiveness of the content and forms of military-patriotic education in general secondary education institutions, their compliance with the social order and demands of young people; the presence of high school students in a clear position regarding patriotism and its detection in the present, the attitude towards the fulfillment of their duty as a citizen of the state regarding its protection, the possibility of self-assessment by high school students of their own activity and the need for purposeful and progressive steps in this regard already now; presence of concrete actions of high school students on the way of moral and physical preparation for the defense of Ukraine in the future. The survey results revealed problems that need to be understood, and they outline the prospects for educational institutions to reformat their activities and consider the social order. Further scientific investigations will be aimed at theoretical justification and experimental verification of organizational and pedagogical conditions and technology to ensure the unity of physical and military-patriotic education of students in general secondary education institutions.
