Abstract

This article delves into the unique features of the social-rehabilitation direction of out-of-school education in Ukraine, particularly under the challenging conditions of martial law. It underscores the significance of out-of-school education in times of war, especially the innovative approaches to the social and rehabilitation direction.
The distinctive features of the content and current areas of work of creative associations of the social-rehabilitation direction are summarized (formation of self-defence competencies, life safety culture, and other competencies essential in wartime conditions; creation of favourable conditions for social adaptation/readaptation, socialization of children and adolescents; work with children and adolescents who suffered from the war, from the families of internally displaced persons, volunteering, social-pedagogical support for all participants in the educational process, etc.).
The article also discusses the practicality and necessity of integrating the content of the social rehabilitation direction with the educational branches of the state standard of basic secondary education. This integration is a strategic move to fully utilize the resource potential of out-of-school education, and it is based on shared values, national requirements, and the competence of students after mastering the content.
The analysis of the results of a pilot survey of adolescents regarding the potential of out-of-school education in the conditions of martial law is presented, in particular such aspects as: awareness of national identity; development of abilities, self-realization in the chosen field; increasing self-esteem, self-confidence; determination of the future profession, acquisition of pre-professional knowledge in the chosen field; rest, opportunities to restore one’s own potential and others. The survey results confirm the assumption about the significant potential of out-of-school education in solving socio-pedagogical problems. The results showed that the following are essential for adolescents: “knowledge of the basics of life safety (behavior in emergencies)” (87.5%); “ability to adapt in difficult situations, stress resistance and resilience” (68.8 %).
